Some off-putting fluff I agree. Maybe needing brought to life better. They aren't entirely fictitious creatures so it could be made more life-like.
I do think this kind of movie drives a teen audience, so it's easy to forget that group.
Take the animated Street Fighter, trying to expand the age reach. Ends up they overplay being serious or errs on being too kiddie.
