Is Rural so Hard to Do?

I wouldn't know where to stop if I started to elaborate on a pet peeve so I just pose a general question.

Why is a movie that takes place in the country/outside of a city so hard to do? Whatever culture, whatever subject they always seem to 'over-do' it. I thought Kevin would be able to so I guess I'm just disappointed.

'One' disgusting mannerism that was WAY over done. Spitting.

They should have taught those actors how to spit if they were going to have them do it every five minutes.

Men that spit do NOT dribble it down their chin, on their beard or anywhere that they haven't aimed:)

It is scenery, clothes, mannerism's, tack, animals, speech patterns all along with storyline that make a good movie to me. So I do notice it all.

You do realize the setting for this movie isnt just "rural," right? It was over 100 years ago. I'm not saying that there aren't some exaggerations, but it is a little tough to call out minor inacurracies in a period piece.
