My apologies to Mr. Costner

Some of you may remember back before this was aired - when it was still being filmed, I had posted that I was NOT happy with the thought of Kevin Costner as Devil Anse Hatfield. I find Mr. Costner to be quite bland as an actor and was a touch insulted by him trying to portray my kin. While I have not had a chance to see the entire mini-series yet (school starts Weds!!! WOOHOO Then I can watch it) I was able to see an hour or so of it. Except for the accent, what I have seen so far of Mr. Costner's portrayal of Devil Anse is , in fact, quite good. As for the accent, there are only 2 types of people who can pull off an Appalachian accent 1) those born and raised there; and 2) Meryl Streep (though she's never done one I know she could pull it off flawlessly). For those who commented previously on my complaint about the casting, you were right and I, happily, was wrong.

Told ya so...told ya so...just kidding but I did, didn't I? The thing with accents is that there seem to be as many of those as languages themselves. So, I would not judge a performance on an accent alone. Meryl Streep is brilliant with that but to me, it seems like that comes natural with her. Try doing accents. I do them and English is the hardest while I find the Irish brogue quite easy. Southern is a walk to Dixie. But, like I said, there are so many different ones.

You did tell me so! I'm happy to be wrong!!! I never expected him to pull off the accent. Hell, I was raised by an Appalachian Hillbilly and I can't do it!!!!

Kevin Costner seems to excel at playing 19th century characters. I just finished this series and I thought he (and the Hatfields/McCoys docudrama) were very good.

And tonight he's up for a Golden Globe! And so is the whole mini-series! Hey I'm no expert but he scared me playing Devil Anse. He was scary! I am fascinated by the entire story! I hope The series wins, I enjoyed it. :)

Kevin Costner was also excellent in Open Range and Wyatt Earp - he can play dark/conflicted characters

Open Range was one I was never interested in seeing, but I did enjoy Wyatt Earp!

You need to see Open Range. Even if you're not a huge Costner fan (I'm mixed on him, some good, some really bad) it's a really fine movie. Of course, since Robert Duvall is my favorite actor of all time, I might be a bit biased!

I do love Robert Duvall!!!!Esp in Second Hand Lions (he sooo nailed my dad in that!!LMAO) and Joe Kidd

I think he did a very good job as Anse Hatfield. Perfect casting overall.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)
