Did Perry Cline honestly love Roseanna?

Or was he after money?

Both reasons possibly

I dunno about being after her for the money. Her branch of the family didn't seem to be all that well off. And he did seem very distraught over her when she collapsed from her always fatal 'pale complexion' illness that has claimed so many actresses. That said, he was still a villain and his 'love' was of the obsessive controling sort.

No, according to narratives given by historians in the 2012 documentary, Hatfields and McCoys: An American Feud, Perry never had a romantic interest in Roseanna. That particular story line was introduced for dramatic effect and had no basis in truth.

I honestly thought Perry Cline was a pedophile. He looked so much older than Roseanna.

reply

Yeah, and the girl he chose after Roseanna's demise looked even younger than her!

Before you start throwing the dreaded 'P' word around, please remember the time period that this story was taking place. On average women married younger then, because (as we see in the mini-series) she's expected to bear 8-10 children and her average life expectancy was her early 40s.

A different time, with different rules.
