I am having a hard time figuring out the logic behind the SUPER plan to capture Randall McCoy. You have like 20 guys and 2 doors and you put 18 guys at the front and you send 2 guys to the back? One of them with mental problems (Cotton Top) and the other (Johnse) that wasn't even looking at the door?
When shooting this scene, how is it that nobody says "this is stupid, doesn't make sense, this wouldn't happen in real life". You have actors, writers, producers, crew, the director, ANYONE and no one says anything?

Theyre idea was to have him surrender instead of his family getting hurt.Doubt they thought he would run. There was other guys surrounding it looked like during shooting spree.maybe too much woods. Big Jim was leading I think johnse kneW it would be harsh.U did hear uncle big Jim say cotton top is getting there after that .

It doesn't matter if they wanted him to surreder or if they wanted him dead or whatever, that isn't the point, the plan is stupid. To make matters worse there is even a dialogue between Jim and Cap about who was covering the back. Cap says that only Cotton Top and Johnse are in the back. This means they were aware of the fact that only 2 guys where covering the back.
So Cap goes to the back to check things out and when he arrives, Cotton Top is playing with a hat and not even watching the door and Johnse isn't even there and here comes ANOTHER SMART DECISION, even after seeing all this HE LEAVES. WTF???

The plan was quite stupid. But it was made by careless men, and ran by one who was probably a drunk. You think life never sees a bad plan carried out even worse? It happens all the time.

You want the film makers to improve the plan. But it seems to me they were working quite hard to show how bad a plan it was.

It was a rather weak scene. That's all.

Just...imagine a different setup with the guys, but same outcome. That's what mattered.

In real life people so stupid things and make mistakes. Especially when angry or scared. It's not always like normal movies where people ar adtion heroes. These hillbillies aren't trained soldiers you know
