This movie reminded me so much of the movie 'May'

Both very good, although I liked "May" a little bit better.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it. I told someone, "If you liked MAY, you'll love EXCISION." Same kind of horror film. Nice change of pace.

Yes, this is definitely comparable to May, though I do think May is better. Still, Excision was quite great.

I love May, but hate Excision. May didn't feel as forced as the characters in this movie are portrayed.
May's character was actually likeable. There was a bit of Pathos worked in to her backstory making the bizzare ending very well deserved.

I know Excision came from a short film. But if felt like a bunch of pointless scenes were added around it to call it a feature.

I echo your sentiment original poster. Excision is great, and reminds me of May, but May is superior. However, they're both good in my books.

I agree with fourthwall who says that May is more likeable. This is true. I liked May, but I hated Pauline.

reply

This film was better if only because AnnaLynne McCord gives a far better performance than Bettis, who is a very limited actor who wouldn't be able to effectively portray the confident portion of Pauline's personality.

The first words out of my mouth when the credits rolled were "That reminded me of May". I meant it as a very great compliment.

"Look at banner Michael!"

I cannot agree with this. Not to take anything away from AnnaLynne McCord's performance, which was extremely good, but Angela Bettis is the better actress of the two.

reply

I thought they both gave fantastic performances, although Angela Bettis was just a tiny bit better.
As for the person saying he didn't feel sympathy for Pauline, I'd disagree. I know I'm easily sucked in by "weird" characters in films, but the way she was portrayed, especially in the scene where she heard her mother say she can't love her, how can you not feel sympathy for her?

reply

I agree with you. ALthough in my case i thought Excision was a bit better than May. However, both similar in many ways.

I, quite accidentally just saw them both for the first time about two weeks apart.
Was surprised I had managed to pic two such similar movies from Netflix at random.
No plagiarism there, they just seem to have created a weird little genre with two films in it.

I really liked them both.
Maybe they should team them up in a sequel with May sand Pauline forming a relationship in an asylum. :-) I
