What do we think about season 6 so far?

Good or bad?

reply

I like it, but will hate it if Patsy does not return.

reply

Patsy leaving wasn't nice.

It seems from all accounts that she will be back, but no word of when. I just hope it's not another Chummy situation.

reply

Bad, I watched it from the first season but I didn't bother last night. Simply cannot be arsed any longer.

reply

Episode 3 was ok...at least Trixie is back.

reply

Is it airing in the US yet?

Crazy Cat Lady in Training 

reply

Not until April.

It's alright. I can't help but wonder if the writers are bringing in modern American sensibilities in 1960s Great Britain with the woman who gave up her child to her cousin but then changed her mind. It reminds me too much of the adoption fights that I've seen over the past twenty years here in the U.S. and even though I can understand biological bonding and that a mother wants her child it's still a cruel thing to do to another couple.

reply

I found it rather heartless that her cousin didn't try any other way to help out Marnie without taking her child. Her offer to "help" was to adopt the child in Marnie's womb. Nice family.

How is that American? It's not like the US owns the copyright on that human condition. I've seen it on other UK programs before. Even Downton Abbey had a story line with a mother taking back her child.

What I am asking is would that be the way the British would handle such an adoption back in the early 1960s. Because the storyline at least to me it felt like the way Americans would handle such an adoption back in the 1990s. I don't know British adoption law from the early 1960s and if they would have handled such an adoption that way.

I've seen it on other UK programs before.

Oh yes, Downton Abbey (2010) with Lady Edith and the Drewes. While I can understand Lady Edith wanting her child back that storyline was definitely bringing in modern American sensibilities into the 1920s British aristocracy. During the final season I remember there weren't any Brits discussing Lady Edith and the Drewes on the message board. It was all Americans arguing including me I admit

Well, her cousin did try to help when she brought a gift for her son's birthday and Marnie bit her head off. I just didn't care for the storyline.

I agree it brought in modern sensibilities, although I wouldn't be so quick to peg them as American. But as for family adoptions, I have seen them on other UK dramas before, including Playing the Field and The Duchess of Duke Street (not to mention Coronation Street, lol).

I'm really going to miss coming into here to discuss such points with everyone. Some boards have already died; I guess posters decided not to bother since they may never get to complete the convo anyhow. A lot of posters have already moved to other sites.

Nowhere will ever be like IMDb has been. I'm not looking for an exact copy, but it would be nice to find some place where there is enough traffic, and the possibility of discussion about older tv programs and films. There are lots of places online to discuss film, but not so many for tv.

reply

I'm going to miss the message boards too but another a poster in another board has recommended http://www.themoviedb.org. There are already discussion areas for TV shows and movies.

reply

I'm going to miss having somewhere to discuss UK drama's and detective series (old and new) with other posters

I've seen a few odd threads for US series and soaps, but, none really for UK drama's. Gutted

I'm going to miss it all and everyone. Shame on IMDB

I thought the deal was, "If you give barren me the new baby, we'll provide for the rest of your family."
