The Debate

I've seen the actual debate with Michael Palin and John Cleese against the clegymen. The one thing that the clergy tried to argue that seemed to be the most flagrantly false to me was their assertation that Brian was Jesus.

In this movie, they reveal afterward that they were late to see Life of Brian and missed the first 15 minutes of the film, which would have probably cleared up their confusion. They missed the scene where Brian was born next door to Jesus.

My question is: Is this real, is this what really happened? Did they really miss that first 15 minutes? Because it certainly explains why they would be so adamantly confused on that issue. I have Palin's diaries and maybe this was addressed in there but I don't have the best memory so I can't recall. Anyone know, or can provide a source?

Of course I may be wrong, but I am sure they missed the film. Absolutely makes me want to punch the both of them in the face. ("Lucky" they're dead now.)

That was what happened Muggeridge & the bishop were having a "nice lunch" while the first 15 minutes of the film rolled.

Cleese had a high opinion of Muggeridge as a satirist before the debate but afterwards lost all respect for him.
