Horrifically Bad

I like Nick Kroll and really enjoy him on Children's Hospital and The League. I was looking forward to this thinking that at the least it would be amusing. I just watched it and seriously cannot believe how unfunny it is. Not only did every sketch fall flat, they were painful. Sorry Nick if you see this.

reply

Yeah I agree with everything you said. I really wanted to enjoy it but I didn't find any sketches that funny. I'm going to stick with it a few episodes still though. It has a lot of comedic talent involved.

reply

It was terrible. Its like he picked a random stereotypes and did the worst joke he could think of. I didn't laugh once.

reply

I get the feeling that Kroll's funny-ability peaked in Cavemen.

Not joking -- I think Cavemen was brilliant satire of typical sitcom tropes, and Kroll's character was a real standout hipster wise-ass cynic... and most of its genius was lost under all the makeup and ugly teeth.

Yes, I just intentionally used words like "brilliant" and "genius" re. the TV series based on the Geico Cavemen.

What I don't get is why it was choose for him to play loud mouth, physical comedy characters in this show when in show's like The League, he plays more of a calm, subtle, but maliciously funny type of character. That's what has been working for him. Being an a-hole. Not dressing up in a wig and doing a generic annoying girl voice.

reply

completely agree, least funny "comedy" i have seen since i cant remember when... painful to watch, everything went on way too long, its as if he knew it wasn't funny but thought making the sketch double in length and twice as loud that would make it funny.... nope. this was awful and should be canceled to save anyone who might accidentally watch the second episode!

reply

Really great comments guys, keep them up. I thought the show was hilar

reply

I like it.

It feels like butter and I just want it to melt into more butter.

reply

I thought it was terrific. This is what Nick, Jon etc do on podcasts like Comedy Bang Bang. Totally my thing. Thrilled to hear it has been renewed for a second season WTG guys.. Loving this show

painful describes this "show" perfectly

Never enjoyed his style of comedy, didn't enjoy him on the League, even though they rarely used him for punchlines, and this new "Chapelle-ish" skit show is tired and completely unfunny. Its pretentious, as if the viewers should find every skit hilarious. Let's face it, Kroll has zero versatility, it may be due to his voice and lack of range that his skits are always mundane and usually in the same tone.

Aziz Ansari does the same thing, except in one show, except Ansari is just as bad as he uses zerp ranger, and just comes off like he's trying way too hard. Kroll has more characters of course, but they all sound the same and his monotone voice isn't working for them.

Couldnt agree more. Also your signature is from a brilliant movie.

Seconded, brilliant movie.

REF JEFF! Modern television comedy is doing way way worse than this show. I do laugh harder at it than I do at something like Bob's Burgers, which I also watch frequently. I just want to like this more, because Kroll's special made me genuinely happy, and I want that to keep on going. His recent Comedy Bang-Bang appearance was good validation for him. the past 2 episodes have been mostly enjoyable. Unless you go at and try this yourself, you can't say Kroll isn't versatile. He is made up well, and his El Chupacabra character is a good example of how much he can do, pinballing through Spanish characters of all ages. He goes at stereotypes to understand them more. And he's kind to them. Sure, he can do a bit more, but he will - also, I'm having fun. There's a lot of liberal assholishness to the vibe and drive of this show, particularly in stuff like Wheels Ontario, which was funny if only because it was preachy, that it borders on unbearable, but there's no reason to preach hate.
What if I said Martin McDonagh isn't a versatile playwright, hmmmm? Nah, any second of In Bruges is great, but few things exhibit as much skill as it.

reply

I have to respectfully disagree. I think this a lot better than most of the comedy sketch shows that I have seen in awhile. I havent laughed at SNL in months and the skit that made a spoof of Degrassi was awesome. Will it last long? I am guessing not, because it is in the death slot of comedy central.

It is very hit or miss..mostly it has been missing. I liked the Rich Dicks sketch this week and the Dr. Armond stuff had it's moments. Last week only the wheelchair academy had me laughing.

reply

The first episode was a trainwreck, but this second had some good moments, i love the guy, he's just awesome in The League ...FOREVER UNCLEAN...let's see how it goes.

reply

I like his stand-up and love him on the league but some of his characters are just annoying and not really funny.

Haven't Tim & Eric done this format already?

I like Nick Kroll but man does this show suck balls. There wasn't a hint of laughter from me with last weeks episode. "The Adventures of Young Billy Joel", wtf was that?

reply

That was easily the worst sketch I have seen in years.

reply

Yea this show is awful. I thought the bobby bottleservice thing was funny years ago but all these sketches are unfunny

I can never tell when I am reading someones signature.

This was a grade A burn for all these friggin' idiots that just don't get Kroll Show. If they don't find it funny then obviously they like the stuff he's making fun of or just don't like to laugh.

He got the show and the press due to Kroll Security's(Inc. Altegrity. Hundreds of acquisitions at this point) access and wealth. It has been renewed despite poor ratings and public disgust. We are witnessing a really strange offshoot of corruption. All that talk of one percenters was true .

Kroll is one of the most absurd and yet ruthless one percenters that ever lived. He not only has faked his success by using his family's influence, but he has engaged in sociopathic scams with cancer scamming comic, Tig Notaro. To date, I only know of three- A stalking scam(where Nick got someone labeled a stalker by calling on special cops that want to work for Kroll. The individual made the mistake of writing something critical of Notaro, online) a kickstarter scam(for Notaro's "Clown Service.") and to really show her how much strings he can pull- a massive and very lucrative cancer scam where they "both laughed so hard." Now, he even bought notaro a fake masectomy scar witness, a Stephanie Allyne, in exchange for a gig on the pos kroll show.
