This will be a flop...

Crappy SyFy-ish premise, winter release date... This is going to flop hard, I can tell already.

Just see the plot and you'll know already. And still it will have a 5. /:

It has been sitting on the shelf for 2-3 years. Being dumped in January. Pretty much a tax write off for the studio

Actually, the movie's release date was changed from January of 2017 to October of 2017. It seems Warner Bros wanted that January date for a 2016 Oscar platform run for a movie written and directed by Ben Affleck I understand that they will have a Oscar limited release around Christmas 2016 and the film to be released on January 13, 2017.

Still does not look like WB has any faith in Geostorm being a hit since it keeps sacrificing it's release date for other projects.

petr-varak and sean-cronin,

you may want to rethink your statements re: Geostorm's box office

January is no longer considered the dump month

several films have thrived being released in January- Cloverfield and Ride Along
among them

Liam Neeson pretty much owns the month with The Grey (19m on its way to a 77m ww total/Taken 3- 39m opening weekend earning a total of 326m ww

Eastwood has also met with success with January releases

More recently Eastwood's American Sniper opening to more than 89 million with a final tally greater than 547 million worldwide (expanded in January)Also received multiple Oscar noms

Gran Torino 29.5 opening finishing with 269m worldwide (ww)having went wide

The Revenant initially was given a limited Oscar qualifying run in late Dec expanding wide in January to 39m on its way to a massive ww total of more than 532m and as you know Hardy was nommed along with Leo who was named Best Actor

Butler may not be to your liking but there have been occasions when his films have made money and banked profit-two things that matter most in Hollywood

You still missed the point. The movies that opened in December were Oscar contenders and that is a whole different ballgame than movies that premier in January, which 9 times out of 10 are garbage quality with the occasional exception. Just like movies premiering in November are sometimes Oscar bait fails.
