Cannot believe Hiddleston wasnt nominated for an Oscar

His screen presence and ability to lose himself in the role of Loki should have gained him A NOMINATION as Best Supporting Actor

I know Superhero movies are usually ignored by the Academy, but Hiddleston does to Loki what Ledger did to Joker

I didnt expect Tom Hiddleston to win, but a nomination would have gone a long way not only for his career but for gifted young actors in general

I am disappointed to say the least

I think he is great as Loki as well, but he wasn't in the same league as Heath's Joker (IMO). And to get a nom from a superhero movie you have to really stand out above the rest of the cast. To me RDJ still out shines the rest of the Avengers cast so if he isn't getting a nom no one should.

reply

I honestly think both Hiddleston and RDJ for Iron Man 3 delivered two of the best performances of the entire year. Far better than the one note Leo in Wolf of Wall Street as one example.

reply

That's the dumbest *beep* thing I've ever heard. You clearly don't know *beep* about acting. Leo was absolutely brilliant in Wolf of Wall Street, in a completely different league than RDJ and Hiddleston's average performances.

reply

I like Leo but his one note over-the-top drugged out money and sex fiend is highly overrated.

reply

Reading *beep* like this make me wanna hope that not one superhero movie ever gets an Oscar.
P.S Iron man 3 deserved a nomination for a Razzie.

reply

And if you actually think the only reason Ledger won for his iconic performance of The Joker was because he died then you're nothing but a delusion Marvel fanboy who also doesn't know *beep* about acting. Not a single performance in any marvel film even comes within 100 miles of Ledger's performance. Stop kidding yourself.

reply

I agree, scotts863. I think Tom Hiddleston and RDJ(For that matter, Mark Ruffalo, too.) are among the actors in the Marvel Movies who pulled off such amazing performances. They each deserve or at least be nominated for an Oscar for bringing to life Loki and Tony Stark/Iron Man, respectively.

Unfortunately, the Academy Awards is a pretentious, overhyped, crock of horse caca that barely notices superhero flicks over films that the majority of the general population won't remember for years to come.(Nothing against Leo, though. I adore him.) But that award show is prejudiced towards genre films like comic book movies and horror movies. The show was always about, "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! I'M RICH! I'M POWERFUL! I GET TO SAY WHICH FILMS ARE THE BEST EVER!". You know, to hell with the Oscars. At least we know that Tom H. is a truly wonderful actor and deserve admiration for his work and charm.

reply

The oscars are a joke, comic films never win anything but the technical awards solely because they are comic films and the people that decide who wins them are snobs, it's only ever just the technical and minor awards.
The only reason Ledger won for Joker was because he died, there was no chance he would have been acknowledged otherwise.

I totally agree but no DC hardcore fan will ever admit it!

By the way, we're not the only asking for a nomination for Tom. The answer comes around the 8th minute

Agreed...Sry

Give it time, he's too good of an actor not to be nominated soon.

Look out for Oscar March Madness in 2014. Tom should have been nominated. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences set the date of the next Oscars telecast for Sunday, March 2, 2014. The awards program goes back to February 22 in 2015 for the 87th Academy Awards.

Loki is as camp(in a understated way) as he is 'complex'. I understand why people like Tom's performance, but if you look at everything about the character and how he is played then no I dont think he deserves an nomination. Parts of loki are akin to the english villians in the first two die hard movies. Maybe its because im a brit, but please dont confuse having an upper crust english accent with automatically being a good actor

reply

I've seen many British villains and I think Loki is well played. I'm not saying it deserved a nomination but I'm definitely not confusing having an english accent with being a good actor. I can recognize a good actor when I see one, even if I'm not Brit. :)

Well Tom H has said he loves Alan Rickman in Die Hard, whether he brought him into the character at all. I don't know. I've never seen the films, to pick up on it. Parts of Loki, Tom and Ken B have gone on record to say they are built on Shakespearean characters.

I am also Brit, and I am can safely say, I don't equate an upper class accent to being a good actor, Hugh Grant is a prime example of a posh accent, rubbish actor.

However, actors with clear diction, not necessarily upper-class are known for being making great stage actors.

Whoever wins best supporting should be liquored up at the after parties and have Oscar taken from them and then the award should be flown to wherever Hiddleston is working next. Someone living in California needs to work on making this happen.

reply

Jared Leto.

Hell with a decent wig & facial hair Hiddleston could lock him up somewhere during the show and assume his identity to accept the award. I bet he does a wicked Leto impression already.

Brawndo. Its got electrolytes.

reply

Jared Leto?

Isn't that the Subway guy who lost all that weight? I don't even know who that is.

reply

Jared Leto is an actor/musician, he has been in movies such as Fight Club, Panic Room, Dallas Buyers Club, he was known in the early 90's for My So Called Life and he is lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars.

reply

He's the guy (or lady) in the first picture.

Even if he doesn't get nominated for an Academy Award in any point in his career, at least we all know that he's an accomplished and amazing actor who deserves praise for his work.

reply

I agree here. I wouldn't really nominate him for T:TDW (although I think he was great), but I since noticed him in a couple of other projects and he's really good at his job. Even with a set of longer black hair and pale skin in Jarmusch's last movie he's NOTHING like Loki, but not only he's different, he's virtually unrecognisable, because he acts so differently. I was impressed.

reply

You said it. He is truly an accomplished and incredible actor who literally disappears into his roles. Aside from phenomenally portraying Loki, I hope we see more of his great work in the coming years.^

reply

If I list the top five actors working today, Hiddleston makes the list. Seriously.
