FYI: User ratings

Over the last two weeks or so, the number of user ratings for this title has almost quadrupled, from 22 to 87.

Problem is... the movie has not been available for public viewing anywhere during this time. American critic reviews for this film should start appearing in the next few days, as Strand Releasing opens the movie in NYC and in Los Angeles, prior to a DVD / VOD release in May. Does this mean 65 film critics have seen this film, and have then come running to log onto IMDb to enter mostly 9s or 10s as ratings, during the last two weeks, for a film that is only going to have a one-screen theatrical release in both NYC & L.A.?

(IMDb seems to think of this user rating activity as "suspicious" too, hence its weighted average)

The Puerto Rico theatrical release of this film happened last year, in April. It opened in six theaters, and was completely gone from them just two weeks later. Film critics in PR gave the movie lukewarm-to-not-favorable reviews.

Again, just FYI. It could very well be that this movie is about to cause a sensation in the USA. Then again.......

I doubt that very much. Just saw this movie last night. Mediocre at best. Was quite surprised with the ratings too, and not a single review.

After getting to 109 ratings with a weighted average of 6.3/10, the number of ratings has dropped to 107... and the weighted average is now 7.5/10. The same thing that happened here with the ratings seems to have happened in Flixster /RT. This for a film that, in its last four days of a one-week release in NYC, made a total of $198.00 in eight screenings (just under $25 per screening), and in its first 3 days of release in Los Angeles, made a total of $780.00 in fifteen screenings ($52 per screening). I suppose more of this can be expected up until the DVD / VOD release in May, where it will have another chance to make a "mark".

Final word about ratings for this particular film: After having a 5.5 average with 172 ratings, there has been suspicious activity once again, with some of the earlier higher ratings disappearing altogether or being lowered... after months with very little ratings activity. It also seems to have happened on the previous feature film by this director, Paging Emma. Make sure you take these with a grain of salt.
