Why is this rated so relatively low?

I'm not going to go with the stupid "this movie is underrated/overrated" cliché because I know this depends on people's ratings and whatnot but I can't deny I'm quite baffled by its average rating. Honestly, I'd expect this film to have a 7 at least, to me it's a fine example of black comedy but I guess I am pretty much into black comedy. Maybe the widespread hate for Bay (whom I'm not very fond of in general either) had to do something with it?

I didn't know it was a michael bay movie till the credits came in. Thought it was very good.

Its a misunderstood movies. People are calling this sexist, disgusting and so on. But the thing is that the movie doesnt glorify any actions the guys are doing :/ Its a well made, shot and funny movie.

reply

Most likely because people thought it would be something else. When that happens, people don't recalculate and rate based on the quality of what they watched, but rate in annoyance that it wasnt' what they thought it was going to be.

reply

Because it was a true story about a mirder

I don't speak for anyone but myself BUT the reason I rated it so low was because I was shocked this movie was even made. If it was a complete work of fiction it would have been awesome. But the fact that this movie is based on a horrific crime spree done by 3 sadistic and violent men and is then turned into a comedy by Bay is shocking. I suggest that everyone that thinks that this movie is funny read up on the case that it's about. You will be shocked.

But dark humor doesn't change the fact that this was based on real crimes. Real people were murdered. A real person was tortured for a month. A real person was told that they would kidnap his wife and rape her.

It was freeking hilarious! The Rock & Wahlberg were brilliant , based on a true story or not this film was awesome and deserves at least a 7/8 Rating.

Back in the 90s before you could search anything on the internet, most people though Fargo was based on a true story. That film was highly rated and acclaimed.

Either you and your movie going kin are too sensitive and should avoid dark comedy and satire(as most people are today in our pussified PC nanny state), your theory is garbage, or both. Probably both.

To get the story line we had to got to prison into general pop

What are you on about? Not a single one of the main characters were likable. Two of them were complete idiots while the third was a manipulative *beep*

reply

The thing is, I didn't sympathize with any of three idiots at any point throughout the film. If you sympathized with Johnson's character then maybe you're a piece of *beep* and don't like seeing dirt in the mirror.

reply

Better question is why is this rated so relatively high?
Quite possibly the worst thing Bay has done.
And yes, I'm including the latest Transformers movie in that.

Absolute, absolute garbage that fails at everything it tries to do because Michael Bay has a potato for a brain.

reply

Because it's excrement.

If only you could see what I have seen with your eyes.

You know, I thought it was a nice little movie too when I first watched it. I had honestly felt more sympathy for Eldad than Pepe, but then I actually read the 20+, detailed piece about this case and had nothing, but chills (I was alone at night so I was a little freaked). The movie actually made me sympathized for Johnson's character when the real Victor, Frank, and his gf went through some really horrific things. I can understand why people are mad (including the surviving victims & their families) that Bay made a movie that made light of something so serious. Real life Victor says that to this day he still can't trust people and still suffers with it and The real Adrien and Daniel are still alive I believe, on death row.

reply

I liked it. It would probably be rated 8+ if it hadn't been based on a true story.

reply

The movie was hilarious. Surprisingly well made.

What do people want? A riveting drama based on a few bumbling buffoons? I hope when I die someone immortalizes my last few days. This isn't a comedy, we're laughing at them not with them. If you were laughing with them you have issues, that's all I'm saying.

If you're laughing, then it's a comedy.
