Forrest Woodbush (a.k.a. the Pet Collecting Styracosaurus)

What was the point of introducing this character?

He was hiding in the trees, said "this place is dangerous", introduced us to some animals sitting on him, saying that Arlo should name the human, then walks away. I assumed he would return in later scenes, but no. He's in one scene. Couldn't Arlo name the human on his own? Why did the Styracosaurus need pets? It felt like just an easy way to design some other prehistoric creatures without even using them in the story.

It tells in the movie why he has the pets.
I thought they were trying to figure out his name and not naming him.

It's possible he was meant to have more to do but stuff got cut. The movie had a very troubled production.

As is, yeah, he's basically a very convoluted, unnecessary way to get Arlo to name Spot, cause the original reason he was named that was lost when they reworked the premise.

I thought Forrest Woodbush was the only brilliant part of the film, but like you was disappointed he was gone too soon. And totally pointless too. If only the whole film could have matched up to that one scene.

Was this dinosaur supposed to be autistic?

I kept waiting for him to say: "I'm an excellent driver."

I thought he was some kind of dino-hippie who fried his brain on drugs. His mannerisms reminded me stock characters of that variety, e.g. Reverend Jim Ignatowski of "Taxi".
