The look of the dinosaurs

Probably a minor thing to some, but I didn't think they really nailed the look of the main characters. Spot was fine, but Arlo and his family looked a little TOO cartoony especially with their big eyes, which conflicted with the realism of the surrounding landscape.

I found it a little offputting, though I concede I may be looking at it too much through the eyes of an adult given it is a kids film.

I agree with you there

Agreed. I felt like half of the movie was a bunch of shots as if to say, "Hey, look how good and super realistic our graphics look now" and then the dinosaurs themselves seemed goofy in comparison. I realize it had to attract the kids, but I think they could have done a better design.

That was my only real complaint about the movie though. It was decent and my son liked it. Not their best movie, but definitely not their worst either.

reply

Yep, I also enjoyed it aside from that. Although character design is a pretty big component.

That's the main reason I didn't want to see the movie. All the dinosaurs, at least the ones shown in the trailer, were far to cartoony looking. Normally I wouldn't care but because they went with a realistic looking background it just loos bad in my opinion.

reply

Yeah that was not a good look. Should've either made the dinosaurs more realistic or the background more cartoony. I loved the setting though, it was really beautiful.

I was distracted by the basic and simplistic design of the main dinosaurs. They looked like a child's drawing. Too unrealistic to be any sort of animal.
The water was unbelievable... I thought it was real in the beginning.

reply

Thought exactly the same.

reply

I don't get it, the rest of the movie is so realistic and beautifully done. The other animals were very good too, but the dinos were not good at all.
