Unnecessary.

This movie in a nutshell. Toy Story 3 masterfully ended the trilogy years ago.

Toy Story 4 wasn't bad at all, but it was not necessary and some ideas were rehashed. Forky not knowing he is a toy was basically just a rehash of Buzz in the first movie. Gabby Gabby is a new Lotso, but with some good left in her. Woody stops being the favorite toy was a rehash from the first movie. Again, the gang must escape a place where toys are help captive.

wtf movie is necessary

reply

I don't think this movie is unnecessary.
And that's literally the point of the series, new toys arrive (in whatever place) and have to learn how to be a toy or learn how to get along with other toys. They get into trouble and have to get themselves out of it.
Granted TS3 was great, but this movie was decent also.

reply

TS4 was the best of the lot though.

reply

Toy Story 4 is better than Toy Story 3.

reply

TS4 is the worst, pushing a SJW theme where the evils that someone does should be ignored because deep down they are really good. Gabby was bad, the equivalent of someone that would steal another person's kidney for themself and yet they all forgive her. Sorry but that's the kind of crap that causes little girls to grow up to accept an abusive relationship... and then people wonder why the murdered wife never left her abusive husband... because of garbage like this aimed at little kids.

reply

How on earth is that SJW??? Movies have been featuring the “there’s still good in you” cliche since the 50’s. Suddenly it’s SJW?

Fuck, literally anything is SJW. “Hey, that wall in the background is a vague offwhite? Obviously the work of liberal SJW’s who want it to be color nuetral not to offend anyone! It offends me though, but I ain’t offended cuz I’m a real man!”

I highly doubt TS4 will convince any little kid to accept abuse happening to them. I highly doubt TS4 will convince any little kid to go out and seek trauma. Such a stupid arguement.

I wouldn’t call it SJW. But I agree that it was dumb. Gabby is a psycho and I had no empathy for her at all. She did not deserve a happy ending.

reply

Gabby was far from a perfect character, but I don't think she was that bad. Just really, really desperate to find a kid that would love her the way Andy loved Woody. Woody didn't really need the voice box anymore anyway so i think it worked out fine for her.

reply

Being desperate does not excuse being bad though. Having a sexual emergency didnt gave Muhammed the right to rape that woman, at least according to the french judge.

reply

We talking about toys in a kids movie though. The two situations aren't even remotely the same lmao. Gabby just needed help and she got that from Forkie just like he got it from Woody. I thought her character development was decent enough.

reply

She did have good character developement, but she was not a good character. Good as in, aligned moral, not well written.

reply

It just goes along with the message that any toy can become lost and angry when they don't get the love they need from a kid.

Same thing happened with Lotso, Sids Toys and Ken to name a few.

reply

Yes, but that does not necessitate for the toy to become evil as a result.

reply

Gabby was supposed to be a tragic character pushed to extremes in search for love. This is a trope as old as written word and nothing to do with the modern political correctness in hollywood. I agree that its not something that should be glorified, but its hardly unusual trope to use.

reply

These belong in a Toy Story movie. It's what makes it a toy story movie. I hope they make a 5th.

reply

Yeah I felt it should have ended at 3. This one was merely ok for me and wouldn't miss it if it suddenly ceased to exist. The story and new characters were all weaker in this one, and I could have done without the new feminist version of Bo Peep. There was wasted potential I think in not incorporating the growth of newer technology in phones, tablets, games consoles, and the rise of social media as kind of taking over from old style toys in keeping kids preoccupied these days. Isn't that becoming more the reality now?

reply

I agree. The truth is that this film is about Andy’s toys. Their story ended when Andy passed the torch to Bonnie.

This film had all the elements of a cheap cash grab. It was superficial and character development was virtually nonexistent. Towards the end, I was bored and ready for it to end.

I should also add that the Forky’s character was really wasted. It might’ve worked better if they focused on his journey in realizing how special he is to Bonnie.
