I think 1 and 3 are still the best, but I felt this one was on par with 2. I really enjoyed the movie, but I do think 3 was the perfect conclusion.

The ending is a HUGE middle finger to the heart of the franchise, especially the end of the third movie. "Woody will never give up on you. He'll always be there for you", my a$$! "We Belong Together", riiight.

But Bonnie ticked me off too, the way she neglected him after Andy made it clear to her how much he means to him. He clearly struggled with giving away his childhood pal, and I have to wonder how hurt he would be if he knew how she just let Woody collect dust. He never would've let Bonnie have him if he knew she would take such lousy care of him.

I agree about the part with Woody and Bonnie. Andy specifically made it clear that Woody was the most important and she treats him like trash.

It's up to the child to choose the favorite toy. Woody understood this. So did everyone else. My impression is that the other toys all loved and respected Woody, but they could see he was getting closeted and eventually bound for the donation bin.

That's why Buzz made it clear to him that Bonnie would be OK without him. Buzz and the other regular toys were letting him go for his own good.

Reminded me of another recent film who's protagonist was sent off with the message that everything would be OK, and he could finally rest.

Right, but that's Bonnie. She's just 5 years old.

The toys themselves, Woody in particular, seem prepared to accept this reality, that it's the child's choice, and there's no "wrong" choice.

That's why Bo was so willing to leave - her child didn't want her.

But Andy didn't say anything about making Woody her favorite, just explained how and why Woody was so special to him. And Bonnie went back on her word to Andy that she would take care of Woody for him. Andy would be pissed.

If either Woody or Forky thinks Forky would've been special in her eyes for long, they're deluding themselves. If I were Woody, I'd be very worried about leaving Forky in the hands of such a fickle kid. I doubt Forky would instill any lifelong memories with her, contrary to what Woody told him. Hell, Forky will probably go back to his place of origin before long.

The point is Woody did his time, he served his owners well, and went above and beyond for all the other toys. He has grown, he has now moved on.

The movie is about the meaning of life, in case you missed that.

Well, I dunno why he didn't come to this realization at the end of the last movie when Andy was moving on before he let himself be donated. This whole movie was just unnecessary.

Or, it could be argued, the movie was necessary to give Woody - the main character of the franchise - a proper ending.

As for why he didn't have that realization at the end of Toy Story 3 - he realizes things in his own time, just like everyone else does.

Correct. Sab and MrMovie are missing the entire point.

It's about growing up, changes that occur and people being different. What was once special to Andy was to Bonnie but in different ways.

Same with Woody. He didn't get over not being Andy's toy anymore but realised he could do good for others whether that was with Bonnie or eventually Gabby Gabby.

Everyone is different and progresses at a different stage and that's all fine is the point.

It's not about remaining stuck in the past and clinging to what might have been the case in 1995. In fact, it's the absolute opposite of that mindset.

I did like the new characters, they got huge laughs but I agree the old toys got a bit sidelined and the movie jumped about quite a bit at times.

I feel like if Spider-Verse can be 2 hours then potentially the final Toy Story movie can have a similar running time. An extra 10-20 minutes just giving the older toys something more to do would have really been the best send off for them.

But they definitely did the best they could within that 90 minute timeframe, Woody, Buzz and Bo getting the bulk of the screen time.

I was turned off by the ending. I feel like they should've had Bo Beep and Woody both go back to Bonnie. But instead they just go off together to live at the fair/park area. I guess though it makes sense with how Bonnie liked the other toys more than Woody. Though it does betray the end of the 3rd movie where Bonnie insists to Andy that he let her have Woody. I will say about the park/fair area, it is pretty genius that they have toys living there that get played with by different kids everyday. Though I suppose they probably have to stay in some indoor place during the wintertime. And this may have been mentioned but the man who voiced Mr. Potato Head died a few years ago so they weren't able to use him much at all.

Yeah sadly Don Rickles passed away 2 years ago. Mr. potato head had 2 lines I think that were old voice tracks of Rickles. Also they could have recast the voice like they did with Slinky. But Slinky, Hamm, and Rex also had virtual no lines whatsoever.

As for Woody/Bo Peep I liked that they had a happily ever after. Buuuut I agree with you that it certainly does betray the end of part 3. The more I think of it they really should have left it alone after 3, and it they wanted to follow up they should have done in the form of the shorts (ala Toy Story of Terror)

I agree. Pixar should just focus on original film making. They are really good at it.

It’s clear that films like Toy Story have outlived their purpose. They are getting redundant and are becoming inconsistent with their characters.

Who says they are going to live in the park area now? They can move around unencumbered.

As for going back to Bonnie - they are both very outdated toys, it is unlikely that Bonnie would have ever been interested.

You are also applying strange standards to a 4y.o. - I don't remember Bonnie *insisting* that Andy give her Woody, but even if she did, so what? Have you ever met a little kid??

Yes. I have 5 nieces and 2 nephews. But in Toy Story 3, they did have Bonnie thinking Woody was cool when she first found him. Then at the end when Andy acts like he doesn't want to give him to her she starts getting sad. Then he gives in and gives him to her. Then we have this movie where out of nowhere she doesn't want to play with him anymore. It's hypocritical to her character. That's on the writers though.
