Does anyone know if the Hunt punching the reporter was true?

I know this board is pretty inactive because most of the posts are mine, but does anybody know if that particular story was true? Or is just Hollywood?

Discussed in the FAQ: not true, although the background regarding the Italian GP press conference is essentially correct, and James Hunt did have a reputation for occasionally letting his fists do he talking...

Gutted. I thought that part was really good. After seeing Nikki and the state of him, Hunt immediately changes his state of mind towards Lauda, and it seems as if all the hate of calling him "Rat-Boy" etc had gone.

I know this was probably all a Hollywood shoehorn. The chances are he wasn't even at the conference. I just thought it was a really strange scene - with the reporter asking Lauda about his wife - if there wasn't some truth to it.

Hunt was a legend wasn't he? Imagine how many races he took part in where he was actually drunk! I can imagine it happened more than once.

Not really my point. I understand how they inject drama in to certain scenes.
But knowing what I know about Hunt, I wouldn't put it past him to have actually done it.

I understand the nuances of cinema, but thank you.

What I would like to ascertain Mr CumbatReceptacle is your line of inquiry?
Oh wait... he's not my client and you're not questioning him..
So shut the *beep* up.

If people patronise you, its usually because you're being a *beep* idiot or you're being a smartar*e.
What was this? Your attempt at getting A* in Journalism or Media Studies?

In a very little while the boards will disappear forever. When they do, your posts will qualify for the unique achievement of becoming more meaningful and less empty simply through their non-existence. God bless.

Well there was. The conference pretty much happened. It's just the aftermath that was dramatized, but to great effect in the film IMO.🐭

I imagined it was made up or exaggerated for the film but I would've preferred the latter tbh.
