I hope that's not exactly how it went in real life....

Who would marry a guy like that?
After seeing him cheat on you then he says Marry Me and all is forgiven?
I hope that part was a bit off.

I highly doubt that's really how it went. It's probably just a foreshadowing tactic the movie-makers wanted to use to foreshadow that their relationship would not end well. Plus, it makes you really hate the guy- so you don't feel sorry for him at all, and have no "ohhh, how did he suddenly turn bad" reaction.

Believe it or not it's true and has been documented in the biography by Sean Smith.

I have the Sean Smith book and though it's been a few years since I read it, I enjoyed it immensely. You appear to be one of the makers of this film -- just want to say you did a great job, the events do seem accurate to the accounts of Jo's life, and although I realise you didn't have a huge budget to work with, I think you pulled off a very satisfying movie here.

I especially liked the small fantasy touches, such as the forest floor growing around Jo's feet in the cafe, and her apartment candles lifting in the air as she decided that's what the candles at Hogwarts were like.

I was also moved by the funeral wake scene with Jo and sister crying in the bedroom. Poppy was 100% convincing while sobbing how much she missed her mother. I lost my mother when I was a young adult too, and I completely related to this scene.

Just for the record, I'm female...

You are correct, Prelude_in_C_maj, I co-wrote the script.

Thank you for the kind words. What a lot people don;t understand is that this is not meant to be a documentary of Jo's life. It is a DRAMATIZATION. Like any writer, our goal was to make it as accurate and entertaining as possible.

In the end, that's all we can do.

Was there even an attempt made to get Mrs. Rowling involved with the production? I've wondered that a lot, since reading she's outright refused to acknowledge its existence. One would think that as protective as she was of Harry's story, she'd be even more so about her own. I did like Poppy in the role though, plus some of the fantasy touches like Wizards' Chess or the floating candles.

None of us know what Ms. Rowling's sexual attitudes were back in her younger days. She may have had six or ten or whatever men in her life at that point. Maybe she thought her marriage was going to work - that's called wishful thinking. Perhaps she could understand her unmarried partner having a fling - but he promised marriage and that was going to make everything different.

Wishful thinking is when you want something to be true so much that you ignore all evidence to the contrary. Very, very bad things have happened in history as a result of wishful thinking.
