Black and death and all their subgenres gets completely discarded in this series it seems? Why?

Watch Sam's OTHER Metal documentary from 2005 (which WASN'T funded by VH1 classic) and you'll see a HUGE portion devoted to black/death metal..

Metal: A Headbanger's Journey does not have a "huge" section devoted to extreme metal, but it most certainly does give the genres some attention. My impression is that Dunn just doesn't really enjoy those genres. He could have given them better coverage with this series given the time constraints of the film. VH1 may have gotten in the way though and kept him from doing them, regardless of their importance in the evolution of metal.

check this out. it kinda explains why there was no death/black metal in the show...

The Extreme Metal episode is not included on the german DVD-Set, and I guess it never was aired on vh-1?
