I think she is typecast as the "weird" and "quirky" character, but some of that is more related to writing and/or directing versus the actress, herself. I don't mind weird or quirky characters. In fact, I like them better than the "cookie cutter" clones/fake personalities some people strive to have. However, the issue with some of Punch's characters is that they are so over-the-top obnoxious that it's impossible to like them. Her character in "Doc Martin" comes to mind and while I've known many incompetent, forgetful and generally unhelpful people who've been able to somehow keep their jobs, NONE of them had no redeemable qualities. There is absolutely nothing to like about her character or even something positive she brings to the table that justfies why she would not only have a job but any kind of relationship with anybody. Her personality was just vile! I also watched "Stand Up Guys" a few weeks back and she was funny in that. Again, though, not the typical girl-next-door type at all. Maybe she feels like she has to do something to be remembered and thinks ANY publicity, even fans complaining, is still publicity. <shrugs> Honestly, I haven't seen much of anything that makes me want to explore her other works. She's not necessarily forgettable, but she's not memorable in a positive way.
