Mari and Yolanda are two young girls growing up on opposite sides of the tracks in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood in Los Angeles. Each of the girls must confront their own obstacles posed by their families and society as they begin to enter young adulthood, each worried and unsure of what the future holds for them. Mari and Yolanda forge a friendship that soon proves more complex and intimate than anticipated. Pushed to the edge, Yolanda and Mari are faced with taking hold of their own lives in this touching and challenging coming-of-age story.
