Why did Mike keep saying "I cant go home" Why the hell not? Just bounce.

Agreed. It was a poorly presented concept in the dialogue. It seemed to come from nowhere.

shareBut Mike also said a few times that "it" doesn't want him to go home, as if some of the footage was a clue that he wasn't allowed to leave, which still seems to be under-explained.

that's one of the flaws of the concept. they coud have just driven to a hotel. that was on none of the recordings chain broken. alternatives: pretty much everything except stayin there or home: mall, strip club ... etc. whatever.

You're missing the point of the question, which is that his stated reason made little sense. It would be like someone in a burning building saying, "I have to stay here because I can't take this home to my wife."
The problem seemed pretty local and specific to that area, so going home or just going to another town would have been reasonable.
Maybe the point was to satirize the contrivances by which filmmakers ensure that their characters stick around to finish the story. share

As I understood it, Mike couldn't go home because he was afraid of bringing the evil home to his wife and unborn child. He said it toward the end of the movie.
shareI think at this point in the movie Mike realized that he was in a horror film. My bases for this is that the entire movie Mike is finding footage of himself from an invisible camera. It doesn't exist to their perceptions because the camera is the same camera filming the movie, and obviously they do not know they are on a set. Another clue is the man in the trailer who talks about beginning, middle, and endings (which are used for storytelling). So I think Mike realized he was in a movie and that any contact with his wife would involve her, ergo why he does not even answer the phone.
