Radcliffe and McAvoy should've traded places
Daniel should've played Victor Frankenstein and James should've played Igor. I think James could've easily played both parts, but Daniel was distracting as the supporting actor imo.

shareSo you think Daniel wouldn't be distracting as a main character?
shareNo, honestly. He's always played the lead in movies - until Frankenstein. Even before Harry Potter, he got an acting gig as a child where he played the lead in some small film. Then after Harry, he did a lot of indies where he was the main character. I'm not saying he's a a better actor than James McAvoy, but Daniel is too recognizable to audiences and can't simply blend in imo.
shareI think Daniel was just fine as co led playing the igor character.
shareGuys you've missed the bit where Daniel Radcliffe was actually the main character of this whole movie.

Well if it was called "Igor" who would have known it was the story about Frankenstein's monster innit ;D
The story was told from Igor's perspective, so he was really the protagonist, even though he was just the sidekick of Victor, if you know what I mean!
As datkaa says, Daniel Radcliffe IS the main actor. The whole film is from his perspective. It's about him being in the circus then being 'cured' of his supposed hunchback, falling in love, looking up to his new master and then seeing everything fall apart. The whole film is about him.
Victor Frankenstein is just the more famous name. McAvoy drifts in and out of the film while Radcliffe is almost always on screen.
Ever heard of "Driving Miss Daisy"? The novel "Demian"?
shareThis is true that the story is told from Igor's POV, but I think the OP means that Daniel should have played who the story was about overall. Yes, Igor is the main character and it is shown from his POV, but this story isn't about him, it mainly focuses on Frankenstein because Igor is mainly focusing on Frankenstein.

Right, not pompous at all then.

No. I didn't have this problem at all and I'm a huge HP fan and am even rewatching the films now and was able to watch Victor Frankenstein without this problem. Dan wouldn't have been as believable in the Frankenstein role as McAvoy. McAvoy has this source of dominance around him that Frankenstein needed to have and Dan does not have that and neither does his character. Radcliffe was perfect for the role of Igor while McAvoy was perfect for the role of Victor. Them switching those roles-neither would be believable in that role. Could you seriously imagine Daniel being crazy and be the demanding one in that relationship the way McAvoy's Victor was? I can't see that at all. I can see Dan as Victor, but not with McAvoy as his Igor. I wouldn't find it believable. I'm glad McAvoy and Radcliffe were cast in their roles on this movie and am more than impressed with the chemistry these two had.

Totally agree!!!
shareThank you! I have my fingers crossed for a sequel, but it doesn't have to be a sequel I'd just love to see Radcliffe and McAvoy together more. Their chemistry was through the roof and surprising.

Martha, a sequel??? The movie made 5 mil in the US
sharewell said OP--THEN the movie might have been slightly watchable--As it is, Harry Potter as a deformed hunchback is like......just stupid--Who greenlights these bombs??
shareDaniel was the main character. It's told through Igor's perspective.
Thats a weird thing to say i am replying to most of these replies.
Never seen the super short guy star in anything of note the fairly short guy has starred in many films.
Both actually do quite well and good supporting actors of completely unknown brits can almost taste the fish and chips.
Also stars the biggest Frankenstein dude is said to be 6 9 plus the frank suit.
The best known one is 5 11 and worst movie starred a 5 8 guy...
Radcliffe should have traded places with a light stand
