How can I see this?

I live in America, but I'm really interested in seeing this. Anyone know if I'll be able to see it after it's been aired?

reply

It can be daunting, but if you can familiarize yourself with bittorrent technology, you can watch virtually anything from anywhere within days (usually hours) of it's original airing. Add to that a burner and an encoding program (which are easy to use), and your options will be limitless.

The BBC iPlayer app for iPad/iPhone should be making it's way to the USA very, very soon - so you'll be able to watch it legitimately. I'd also have thought that BBC America would be airing it at some point too.

While i appreciate you have a nuanced perspective on these issues (based on a quick look at your blog), what would you suggest for those people who do not possess an ipad/iphone? Would it be possible to watch it @ the BBC site using a UK proxy server?

Sincere thanks - looks interesting! If one has the money (http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9668709), that looks like a really nifty option. It looks quite well-established/professional - I can't believe I'd never heard of it before today!

I've found that some of the free proxies claiming to be UK based are, apparently, not (in the UK, that is) ... So alternatives are always appreciated.

Thx martyndrake1976 - Appreciate your taking the time.

Well, I thought "if this is good enough for Neil Gaiman, it's good enough for me". Besides, LifeHacker has recommended TunnelBear as well, so that's what convinced me to go ahead. Seems reputable all things considered.

(Although bear in mind - hahhah - that if the likes of SOPA are pushed through the US as law, we can all say goodbye to these proxies).

SOPA is indeed pure evil (and for readers who are not yet aware of SOPA, that is not hyperbole).

We're doing what little we can here to fight the egregious amounts of corporate money backing SOPA, but Congress is a wholly owned subsidiary of the wealthy class, I'm sad to say.

Tomorrow (dec 29th) is 'Dump Go Daddy Day' (avoid the rush! Dump 'em today!). Hopefully, we can hit the jerks that wrote this bill in the only place they're concerned about - their personal bank accounts.

While I'm sure you're already aware, Martyn, others might not be: Go Daddy helped to write the bill (in which they included a nice little exemption for themselves!), only to attempt a little PR dodge once people began to hold them accountable for their actions: "Adelman couldn’t commit to changing its position on the record in Congress when asked about that, but said “I’ll take that back to our legislative guys, but I agree that’s an important step.” But when pressed, he said “We’re going to step back and let others take leadership roles.” He felt that the public statement removing their support would be sufficient for now, though further steps would be considered." ( http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/23/godaddy-ceo-there-has-to-be-consensus-about-the-leadership-of-the-internet-community/ )

Please, dear readers, let them know that SOPA harms us all... In addition to calling your representatives (sure, it's frustratingly ineffectual, but remember how craven they are... If enough people call...) , dump Go Daddy tomorrow!!

*tucks soapbox under his arm and leaves the square*

Thanks again, Martyn ;)

Is there anything non Americans can do to aid the fight? Censoring the internet just doesn't sit well with me. The arab spring wouldn't have been possible without the internet to co-ordinate. Will VPN's still be usable when the proxies are removed?

Go to this site http://www.filestube.com/t/the+borrowers+megaupload and you can find virtually anything. Hope this helps.

Happy New Year to all.
