How on earth did this get 6.2 score

As title says, how on earth did this movie get 6.2. I watched it, its no more than 3 and that is being generous.

There are quite a few of us out there who enjoyed it quite a bit.

Its one of the best Van Damme movies in years, f- off and be a hater somewhere else.

I think you will find that you are the hater. This is a forum for discussion, not foul-mouthed insults directed at other commenters. Also, not a place to tell other people what to do.

I was quite surprised.

For a JCVD direct to video release, it was pretty good, compared to some of his past work. Take Derailed for instance. OMG!

There were some surprising characterizations, such as Monica the mum, who doesn't play the normal hysterical parent and as the movie progresses, has a bigger part to play.

I quite liked it, but I'm not sure I'd like to buy a cut of meat from that dive of a butcher shop he owned.

It is much better than Amazing Spiderman and its 7.4 ratings! This is a good low budget action flick and Van Damme's performance is not what you'd expect from an aging one trick pony - he's brilliant. He proved his acting skills here and showed he's not just a roundhouse kick performer.

Maybe people only watched the first half of the film.

I noticed the acting get progressively worse towards the last half. Perhaps it was editors getting bored.

5/10 from me

This is a really good movie. I was surprised.

This movie was excellent. It was one of Van Dammes best movies. People who give this movie a negative review are simply not movie critics. If you look at the acting in this movie, 90% of it is absolutely superb. He took common themes and did them so well that they feel fresh and enjoyable. It's an 80's style action movie done with vigor and perfection, and for those that remember the 80's action movies, this one is as good as any. A big thumbs up to the attractive ladies in the film who capture screen attention. Loved the ending. We need to see Van Damme play in another Stallone film too because his best acting ever was in Expendables 2, by far. If you haven't seen Expendables 2, watch it just to see Van Damme play a wild villain.

This movie was a thousand times better than I expected. It was nice to see characters reacting realistically. For example, when the dad breaks the dude's neck the wife is surprised, but quickly gets over it and says "grab his gun".

I've seen too many movies where female characters get hysterical and annoying in this kind of situation.

reply

Nah, they way she turned into Jane Rambo was more annoying and unbelievable.
But got to have the forced female empowerment and show she's a tough girl by making her into a walking cliché (and by being violent towards men, surprised she didn't hit her husband because that's usually empowering) and making her interchangeable with every other female character in every action film released in the past 30 years.

Seen that coming at the start by the way she was a bitch to get husband.

having her be hysterical would be something different instead of normal. Wanted the tied up doctor to headbutt her and knee her in the groin she was that annoying.

Only there to apease the feminist

reply

And why was she shocked that he broke the guys neck when earlier when she was backed up with two martial artist and a man was chained up by both his hands and feet she was big and tough enough to threaten to kill him by castration.
if she can be that brave to a chained up man when she has backup I'm surprised she doesn't break the guys neck what with her obviously being so tough...
when men are chained up and she has two martial artist to back her up.

I noticed after the guy was dead and her husband explained why she went back to being tough and acting like she was in charge.

Who wouldn't be afraid of her. She's clearly genuinely a very strong woman and should be in the female expendables film as their leader.

Also casting an Arab who looks nothing like Van Damme as his son! Multicultural/ multiracial propaganda is utterly pervasive in Hollywood now. It's rare to find a modern release that doesn't contain at least some subtle propaganda elements.

That's actually Kristopher Van Varenberg, his real son. :)

I agree this movie is lacking, maybe a 4/10 from me just for seeing Van Damme again. What I wonder is why they keep writing him as lead star JCVD the first name that pops up as if he's the lead here and Assassination Games but his screen time's not that much actually compared to the other guy.. A bit deceiving. He can't handle too many lines too it seems. Guess someone who can yell shows great talent and it can be called great acting, showing puppy face with eyes all watered is such talent! Acting? Not from JCVD that's for sure, he's just 'the man' who 'takes the bad guys out'. All he can do apparently.

You can not possibly be as stupid as you sound. Intelligence isn't produced by 'pure' bloodlines.

I agree with the OP. This wasn't anywhere near a 6 or even a 5. Very little Van Damm action except at the beginning and the main protagonist characters were pretty weak. Why use a hack actor to portray an MMA fighter when you can find them at a dime a dozen trying to gwt into movies and get some real action to boot? I''d give it a 5 for the sexy girls throughout. But overall I give ut a 4.5. Had potential but didn't come close to how good it could have been.

I just saw this on Netflix and i agree with you, this really kind of sucks. It started out great and with the white slavery theme, I thought Van Damme had a winner here. VD doing some nice moves. Would have liked to have seen more of that type of action throughout the movie but they let these other two characters take over the movie and it just drags. And when we see VD again, the movie never regains that momentum it had in the beginning.

This young girl's father is supposed to be a kickboxer but we don't see much martial arts action from him. Acting wasn't that great either. You're right. They could have gotten some scrub mixed martial arts guy for peanuts and he would have done a better job and probably would have helped do the fight choreography for a couple extra hundred bucks.
