NL Catalina in Yellowknife?

I've only watched the opening episode so far but there were several shots of a NL Catalina (I think it's a Catalina). What would that be doing in Yellowknife?

Flying around? Carrying the film crew? Put there deliberately to attract comment from anal retentives?

reply

parked up

One of life's strangest mysteries.

It wouldn't. They probably towed it in from the local air museum.

A DC-3 is one thing, but a Catalina? Morons.

And there's nothing anal retentive about being an actual bush pilot (albeit one the flies in Alaska, not Alaska-lite Yellow Knife) and knowing what equipment is used and what is an obvious lame prop.

As I explained to the OP it was probably a Canadair CL-215 water bomber used by Buffalo Airways in Yellowknife where the hangar scenes are shot.

So if an actual, real-life airline feels the need to have a CL-215 in their hangar in Yellowknife then I guess they're the "morons" for having an "obvious lame prop"

I don't remember the scene specifically but what you probably saw was a Canadair CL-215 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadair_CL-215), a Canadian built water bomber based on a variant of the PBY Catalina.

And it's in Yellowknife because Arctic Air is filmed in the Buffalo Airways hangars and Buffalo currently has a number of CL-215's. So if you don't think it makes sense to have CL-215's in Yellowknife then I suggest you contact Buffalo Airways and explain it to them. Here's the link:
