Tears and Joy DVD

For those who want a happy ending, this DVD edition has an additional alternate ending. I watched both, and of course wanted a happy ending, at least for a change. He always kills off the main characters. I just have to wonder why? I don't know if Sparks has any input in the re-write for the movie or not. I just don't understand why the main characters have to die in most of his books.
