To get the full details ...

Herzog doesn't address the full details of the crimes, or how Perry and Burkett were caught. So for those interested in understanding the full story, as background to these interviews, I've found an episode of the true-life crime show "Wicked Attraction" that covers this case.

It's called "Wheels of Steel", and several copies of it are up on YouTube. (The one I watched was at www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOzsQ2AJZsA.) It also makes sense of some of the claims by Perry and Burkett that seem contradictory in this film.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Very interesting, thank you. I can't believe there are people out there who believe Burkett is innocent.

I agree, cinnaspider.

I found watching Michael Perry quite disturbing -- I felt no sympathy for him, and couldn't work out whether he was as simple-minded as he seemed and really didn't understand what he'd done and what was happening around him, or whether he was a totally devious piece of crap who was just stringing everybody along ... but that said, it did make me sad in a hypothetical sense that one man lived while the other one was executed, mostly because he didn't have someone to speak up for him.

Burkett tried to convince everyone that Perry did all the actual killing, and that he (Burkett) was just swept up in it. But I find that hard to believe.
