Colin Farrell turns down Lancelot role, old confirmed cast gone

At least there's some news about this movie.

I think he would've been too old for Lancelot, since this is an origin story of sorts, but not for other characters.

Apparently they've approached James McAvoy and others for Arthur.

It seems they still want Gary Oldman for Merlin.

I know that nothing is written in stone at this point, but McAvoy playing King Arthur would be a dream come true for me.

At this point I'd be happy if they cast anyone for this movie; it would be a sign it is going to be made. I'm so unsure of the outcome at the moment... but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thank you for posting news on this board; at least it hasn't been deleted yet, like the previsou Arthur movies' boards. I suppose this means there's still hope!

Yeah, I really want this movie to be made, and kinda pissed Kit Harington's not gonna be Arthur, as I think he would have been excellent for the role. James McAvoy doesn't sit well with me for Arthur. He looks kinda.... I don't know how to put it....

But I hope this gets made eventually.

Winter Is Coming.
Game Of Thrones season 2 April 1st!

Skinny? Short? Delicate?

definitely one of the last people I'd think of for King Arthur, but the fact I only saw him as a faun in Narnia and in period costume in Becoming Jane probably doesn't help.

Well, McAvoy can play "unlikely bad-ass hero".

Young Professor X from X-Men: First Class

Wesley the assassin from Wanted

Leto II from Children of Dune

But I don't think he's up for Arthur since the X-Men: First Class sequel starts shooting in a few months.

To add to Gromel's "unlikely bad-ass hero" list, McAvoy plays a detective in the upcoming crime thriller 'Welcome to the Punch', and no doubt it will feature some action sequences. I remember that the actor looked really fit in a behind-the-scenes photo that was taken in August.

Nine months from now is a bit more than a "few" (that word usually makes me think of three or four). It was recently reported that principal photography for the XMFC sequel will begin in January 2013, although I suppose that might still interfere with 'Arthur & Lancelot'.

reply

Considering how slowly the Arthur and Lancelot project is evolving, if at all, isn't it more likely that the First Class sequel shooting will be done before A and L starts filming?

Thank you both for the suggestions, I'll keep an eye out for other performances by Mcavoy. I might even stop seeing that skinny faun when I see him in time. ;)

I hope they do get Gary Oldman! He'd be perfect!

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.
