Christ John Le Carre, what happened to you?

I am a huge Le Carre fan, particularly the early works and Smiley novels as well as BBC tv and radio dramas. But let's be honest, since the Cold War ended he has been floundering like a fish on a beach (except The Russia House and Constant Gardner). One can't help compare this with the other German-based novels. It doesn't stand up. But then again the geezer is in his 80s. This is a plotless, clueless borefest. No wonder The Hoff was bloody suicidal. I can't even be bothered discussing the non-plot. I watched it when it was pissing down. I wish they still had the Test Card.

I forgot. The Hoff was ok but obviously based on that guy in The Company plus a cross between Hopkins and Burton.

I agree. The climax was the Abdullah signing for the deposit to the shady shipping company. Wow, I've attended closing conferences on houses that were more exciting. Most people misunderstand the ending. They rammed into the "cab" at the end to stop this bore fest.

What's so difficult to understand about the shaggy dog ending? It was like listening to a long-winded but semi-interesting joke build-up, only to hear a rather vapid punchline.🐭

You know you're not talking about some cartoon character, right? A man died. Show some respect.
