any suggestions for similar - slow and thoughtful - spy movies?
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy obviously comes to mind... but what else could you suggest?
thanks.

There's a great black-and-white classic from 1965, if you're willing to watch something that old.
It's called 'The Spy Who Came In from the Cold,' and it was also based on a Le Carre novel. Le Carre has been around a long, long time...

Richard Burton is fantastic in this film. I think he was one of the greatest actors who ever lived.
Oh, Inspector Morse! What big blue eyes you have...
The Skeleton Twins: 9
actually, that was the first Le Carre novel I've read :). and the adaption is beautiful, too – and is a good example of what I'm looking for.
shareThe American - 2010
shareit's quite a good example, yes. but I've already seen it :).
shareYes, I thought the American was a very good movie. It does move very slowly and isn't for everyone, but if you can get past that you should enjoy it. And I thought Clooney played the part very well. His acting was very subdued and fit the role perfectly as his character had to be detached from other people.
"Loves turned to lust and bloods turned to dust in my heart"
Why not start with the best? BBC's Smiley's People.
The Constant Gardener is OK, too.
thanks, but I've seen almost all of the Le Carre adaptations (and have read a bunch of his books, too) :).
he's the best, I agree with you. but what about others?
The Good Sheperd (2006)

Probably the best 'spy' shows made for TV (BBC). Low production quality but top-notch writing. Smart, tight and realistic. No James Bond crap to be found.
Munich (2005) comes to mind.
shareBesides the Gary Oldman Tinker Tailor, there's also the Alec Guiness/BBC miniseries of Tinker Tailor that is great (to which Smiley's People is a sequel). There's also a miniseries of The Perfect Spy which is quite good. Most Le Carre adaptations are great, and the books are definitely worth reading.
