Grigoriy Dobrygin is awesome (and refused to do a love scene in this!)

I just saw this movie again, and enjoyed it even more. Grigoriy Dobrygin (Issa) is just incredible - I absolutely love this actor. Handsome yes, but seriously talented. I've seen a few of his other movies, and he completely transformed himself into Issa. I read that that they tried to add a sex scene with Rachel McAdams but he argued against it, saying it would have been completely out of character for Issa. He was right - a love scene would have been wholly unrealistic (and cheesy). The scene they had where they kind of awkwardly hold each her after they play chess, and he's shaking, was perfect and believable.

I could be wrong, I can't think of any other famous Russian actors who really made it in Hollywood. I think he could be the first?

I haven't seen this actor in anything else but he really seemed to have no range at all in this.

Loved the movie for many reasons: It was engaging and true to "real life" spy dealings. It had the the Celebrated PSH in it and Rachel McAdams was nice to look at. And it showed the many interests involved in terrorist fishing.

But I completely agree about the actor playing Issa and the stunted love scene. I'd never seen the actor before but i believed inn him and his story wholly. He had the personality of a victim who was injured and afraid of people. I bought all of his scenes.

If a love scene had happened it would have cheapened the movie and the characters values imo. I dont get the need to have a love interest/scene in every single movie. We dont need titsNass to keep us interested (although McAdams' would have been enjoyed immensely😍). The awkward scene expressed everything it needed to and i appreciated it a lot. It was consistent with the characters motives and personalities.

Good movie all around.. Man i miss PSH

I thought the guy playing Issa was really really good and very understated. I know PSH's performance was brilliant but Issa's role was so important in this. if you didn't buy him you wouldn't buy the rest of it.

Thank God they didn't cram an obligatory love scene in. It would have been totally unrealistic for both characters given their backgrounds.

Agree with your sentiments entirely! I couldn't have put it better myself!

I agree, a love scene would have undermined Issa's character as an 'innocent', perhaps naïve, and idealist. I think the way it was handled emphasized this and these things do happen in real life.
