The Dance Scene

I just wanted to ask what the title of the song playing in the dance scene was.

reply

I don't know the song but it didn't sound like something that came from as far back as 1981.

reply

So you're saying the song is specially made for this movie?

reply

I believe it was. Musically, it wasn't too far from some of the Funk/R&B artists of the era, but I noticed "CDs" being referenced in the lyrics, which indicates the song was written later than 1981. CDs weren't commercially available until October 1982, and not available in the United States until March 1983.

A small detail, yeah, but it's the attention given to those kinds of small details that raise some movies above others when they're set in specific time periods (otherwise, why bother with a retro setting at all?).

Hey, thanks! I gathered info on the song and it was Live Forever by James Curd though I can't find out when it was made.

All I could think of during that dance scene was this advert...

John Hancock

I think that is a new song created around the time of the movie. It appears it's heavily sampled from Ronnie Jones "Video Games" from 1980:
