Rooster survives winter but daisy/the hen cannot?

I found it odd that daisy the hen decided to sacrifice herself because she decided she would not survive the winter. Yet we are to believe the rooster, who the mayor was finding a place to live during the winter, is going to survive? Why then could daisy not survive and be there for her boy when he returns in the spring? It is not like the weasel wouldn't be able to find other types of food other than the chicken.

Do not get me wrong, I loved the film. It was quite touching. I just did not think the ending made sense. I know they were trying to bring together the circle of life and all that. But it was not necessary in my opinion and led to a bit of a depressing end. All the good feelings they had built up were tore down with that ending. If left me feeling empty.

Daisy was never the most healthy bird to begin with, unlike the rooster. She lived in a poor environment all her life. She was scrawny and sickly from the very beginning and only grew a little healthier during her time in the wild. Living in the marsh with all the wetness was constantly making her sick (she was always sneezing) and when winter started to come she was getting worse.

I watched the English version, so maybe this was different than the original. I watched the original uncut end and in that version she never implied she was making the sacrifice because she wouldn't survive the winter.
