Plot hole with the prime robot?

The CEO of ROC tells the story about the first robot who became intelligent. He clearly states they deactivated him and even shows his "bio kernel" which was removed. Sooo, fast forward 20 minutes and Jacq meets this intelligent original robot. Didn't seem "deactivated" to me.

That wasn't the prime robot. Exactly how that first robot came to be altered wasn't fully explored but my guess was that the prime robot added a tiny possibility for change to his creations that the humans couldn't detect.

reply

I am not satisfied by this explanation, as a sci-fi fan.

reply

Correct it wasn't the prime robot. The "boss" robot even stated to Jacq that nobody altered it, that it just happened, just like any living organism. Life happens and to the living there is no choice in the matter. Can you opt out of birth? Neither could the "boss" opt out of self-recognition/birth.

reply

Yes, nobody altered it, but it doesn't mean it wasn't the prime robot.
It's great if this comprehension is enough for you, but unfortunatelly it isn't for me.

reply

You can see it as a mutation happening in a living organism, which can also be compared to a software bug (the manager on the construction site in the beginning mentioned robots failing more and more often), except that in this case it didn't result in a failure.

reply

If I recall, what you refer to as the prime robot was nothing more than a brain AI.

reply

It was the prime robot for that group, but not the first one ever reaching conscience.
