Can anybody explain what went so wrong with this?

The director of "The Devil's Advocate" and "Ray" made a movie starring De Niro and it has a score of 4,6?

I haven't seen it yet, but that rating seems very hard to believe. Is it because of the high expectations or is it really objectively that bad?

I'm wondering the same thing

Critic reviews haven't been kind.

However, I think it's AS LOW as it is, because there is an active anti-De Niro campaign online right now over that video he made slamming Trump. Evidence of this is all through this film's boards and De Niro's boards. There's a bunch of guys down voting all De Niro's films, now, and saying they'll never watch his films again and so on. Trump won, what are they on about?

This is not close to true. Almost EVERY major Hollywood Actor slammed Trump. If people were rating movies bad because of criticizing Trump, every movie's imdb would be low.

Listen to the critics on this one, this was absolute garbage. It is amazing this got made in the way it did. No matter the criticism of DeNiro over his filmography in the last decade, the guy has done some amazing work and been part of some of the best films ever made. He knows acting, he knows story structure, he knows great characters, he knows what makes a great film, etc. . . Yet none of that was on display here. The movie was just utter trash. Bad in pretty much every way, definitely will be on many lists for the worst films of 2017.

DeNiro's career will always fascinate me. How does a guy make so many not just great films, but legendary timeless films then proceed to make so many terrible movies in his 60's and now 70's? He has to know, right? You can't tell me someone as legendary in the film world doesn't realize how awful this movie is. It is just bizarre that he would keep being in movies like this. Some you could argue are "paycheck movies" and that he just wants to work. However, The Comedian was a passion project, one he fought to make for a long time, and yet it might be the worst movie he has ever been in.

The jokes aren't funny and De Niro is bad at delivering them.

Seems to me it is a combination generational and Political Correctness thing.

~~~~I am 62,~~~~ I loved it.~~~~ 7/10.
Way better than 87% of the crap being put out there these days
oh, and by the way, the screenplay was written by the producer of FIGHT CLUB, Art Linson, along with Jeff Ross.
