Well I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either.

I feel like I'm on the fence about this movie. Yes, there were some unrealistic plot points, but let's face it most movies have them (especially love stories).

I really felt like there was a lack of chemistry and passion between Kate Winslet & Josh Brolin. Maybe that's it.

I really hated her neighbor...and cringed when she slapped that poor boy. I guess we aren't supposed to like her though.

I have mixed feelings also.

it was slow developing.. and the music was distracting for me..
the movie felt like manipulation... it did not really flow easily for me.
but it had a sweet ending.

but I love Josh Brolin.. Winslet looked great...
and I love Tobey Maguire narrating.

I also feel the same way. It came across to me as a moody, atmospheric piece a little in the style of Terrence Malick, so maybe that's the reason these plot issues weren't tidied up more.

One thing I don't get is I don't recall him ever really explaining to Adele and Henry his story. It was told in flashback to us the viewers, and Adele told him her story in detail. I'm assuming they trusted him blindly.

With all that said, I found the ending to be an extremely satisfying one. That pushed me over the ambivalence fence an inch or two.

I felt the same way. Not the worst movie I've ever seen but not good enough to watch again.

I always find little picky things in movies.

Why didn't Frank lock the door after Adele and Henry went to the bank? The nosy neighbor (whom I'm sure is the one who called the cops) wouldn't have been able to walk right in. She would have left whatever she brought on the doorstep. Why didn't they back the station wagon into the driveway so it would be less noticeable that they were packing it? Why did Adele act like such a scared rabbit at the bank? It was her money and she was entitled to withdraw any or all of it. If they hadn't packed up everything in the fricking house, they would have been long gone.

I agree with you about the door it always seemed to be opened or unlocked they should have been more careful, I also don't know why they had to pack up the whole house it was a bit ridiculous but that's not what held them up, they couldn't leave without the money and they had to wait till after the holiday weekend to get it as the bank would have been closed. As for her freaking out a bit in the bank she had anxiety issues, she would have been better off waiting in the car and sending Henry in on his own to get the money although they may not have given it too him.

Very disappointing, for somebody of Reitman's ability.
