What did Stacey mean? spoiler

The scene where he holds her down & right at the end of it she says "If you don't go I'll do everything I can to make your life difficult & I know you know what I mean.."

What exactly was she referring to? Take kids away?...

Wait, oh *beep* I think I just answered my own question... the part where she tells the priest she sort of "helped cover up his murder of Kathleen"... maybe that's the answer...

By the way, I thought Rob Lowe was so good in this, I'm actually hating Rob Lowe right now even thought I know he isn't really Drew Peterson,
BUT, since Rob is younger & goodlooking, I think the creep factor & hatred toward real-life Drew would have been heightened & realistic for the audience had they hired an older less attractive bigger man to ply the role opposite all those young women... ...ick ick ick...

Yeah she meant she would tell what she knew about him killing Kathleen.

When Drew got home, the evening they found Kathleen in the bathtub, he had put a load of clothes in the laundry however he NEVER did the wash. Stacy put two and two together, after some time and realizing he was capable of abuse/murder, and figured Drew had something to do with Kathleen's death. Drew wasn't aware of this, hence the bewildered look he gave when Stacy made the statement.

I'm glad Jennifer Hudson lost weight but the commercials are every two minutes ...WE GET IT!

reply

Yeah but once she figured it out she should've left him, just picked up and got the hell out when he was at work.

Annnnd go where exactly? She had stopped working because he provided for her. was she just going to leave her kids with him too? People don't realize that abused women can't just pick up and leave without a safetynet. Sure she could've crashed at her nice neighbor's house but Drew would've barged in.

Not to mention he is a Cop with alot of pull. he could've easily tracked her down. and declared her an unfit mother etc. probably even have her committed or thrown in jail by planting bogus evidence. I felt so bad watching the movie knowing it happened to her in real life. :/

Well then she should've just killed herself because she had no choice, right? Yeah it's not easy but when your life or your children's lives are in danger you figure out something. And she knew he was capable of killing somebody, did she think she and her kids would be safe with him?

reply

Well by that trite logic abused women should just kill themselves if they have the nerve to try not to extract themselves from bad situations. Thanks for putting words in my mouth. I appreciate the smug response. It sounds like you have little to no knowledge about abuse. I'm no expert but I do have a Bachelor's in Social Work and have taken alot of classes and seminars on the topic. She had no way out of the situation!!! This is reality for abused people. In reality Stacey had an abusive childhood. Coupled with low-self esteem it's no wonder she hooked up with a smoooth talker like Drew.

Maybe she didn't feel worthy enough to get herself out of the situation. we'll never know. In the movie she said "It doesn't matter. He'll find me. He won't stop till I'm dead." Sounds pretty hopeless to me.

She thought since she brought up Kathleen that she had some leverage for a little while. But it didn't matter because he killed her in the end anyway. She had no money, she had no car, What do you propose she would've done then huh? Ooh go into witness protection like in the movies? Yeah Drew would've denied it anyway since he probably already destroyed the evidence. Learn kickboxing and beat him up the next time he messed with her? Please get real.

Okay, so if it was you you would what, just stay in the house and wait for him to kill you?

reply

I'm sorry for being overly passionate in my responses. I was sexually abused by a neighbor when I was a kid. not the same thing but watching the movie hit some nerves for me.

Hmm... honestly if it was me I would probably have gone over to the neighbor or my parents house. tried to take the kids with me. but again Drew probably would've claimed kidnapping charges to get the kids back into the house.

So I guess my best bet would be trying to check into a shelter for abused women and for awhile. but even that would only be temporary. I'm not exactly sure if that sort of thing costs money or how long it takes to check into one (bad on my part! I studied social work but am not working in that field) but I imagine it would've taken at least a week.

It sounds like Stacey was starting to get the courage to figure out a plan to leave Drew. especially when she confronted him about the washing of Kathleen's clothes. but I feel like (watching the movie version at least) he killed her before she could ever make a move.

We'll never know for sure, but either way in a situation like that you would risk being killed, might as well die trying is the way I see it.

On a side note, I kind of flashed on The Stepford Wives when watching this because she did have one person in the whole neighborhood who knew there was trouble in paradise, somebody she could have relied on, and at the same time that's kind of scary that of the whole block you can only trust one person.

Yeah right...🙄

She didn't do nothing. She was telling people her circumstances such as her pastor. I'm sure she was hoping someone could offer advice or help on what to do. It's not like she was silent about it. Neither was the 3rd wife who got killed after taking Drew on to get her fair share of their money and property for security for herself and the boys. And if she went to a shelter or in witness protection there is no insurance that Drew wouldn't find her. Drew was an undercover cop. Kathleen reported him to state investigators and they did nothing. There was very little anyone could do to help this girl. Drew is a sociopath. He wouldn't have given up until he got even. Which means she would have died nonetheless.

Aside of the fact she figured out she'd need to leave a murderer-leaving that type of situation increases a woman's chance of death. When you have kids, you must get them safe and thinking and planning is crucial to leave and be safe. Just running isn't always the best bet.
