Should I be laughing at Rob Lowe's performance?

From what I've seen in these commercials, it looks like Rob Lowe's just trying to do an impression of Drew Peterson. It almost looks like he's doing a skit from Saturday Night Live. Plus, what casting agent really thought Rob Lowe would be good for this role? The two don't look anything a like. I know makeup helps, but casting an actor with a similar physique would have been better. Rob Lowe is too boyish, even for his age now. The guy is ageless. Drew Peterson, however, is chubby and looks like the Lion from Wizard of Oz. Come to think of it, John Goodman could have played this role. He lost a lot of weight, but he is still chubby enough to resemble Drew Peterson. But Rob Lowe? lol.

It's nice to see Rob trying a different role. But he is way too good looking for the role!

He's done drama (Brother and Sister's),now he is on Parks and Rec (comedy) so I guess this is one thing he hasn't done in a while - being the bad guy. But I was just referring to how he's too good looking - as in way better looking - than the actual Drew Peterson. :) All I might be able to think about is the good looking Rob Lowe behind all the make up etc. :)

This movie was somewhat entertaining - certainly better than expected. This was largely due to Rob Lowe and Katy Cuoco. The acting of everyone was better than the script. I live in Chicago and have seen the real Drew Peterson, etc. I thought Lowe nailed him.

I'd say he's got it down pretty well.

I agree that he did a good job. It's really hard to portray a real life person without it becoming a caricature or going a bit over the top. Almost impossible it seems, and even more highly acclaimed actors can't seem to do it that well.

I think Rob Lowe did a great job getting Peterson's voice down. Yes, the wig was a little obvious, but all in all, I think he did an excellent job.

I'm not a Rob Lowe fan, and haven't seen him in too many things, but one other performance stands out. Years ago he portrayed a young man who was supposed to be somewhat mentally slow...I think the movie was "Square Dance". I always think that these roles are almost impossible to portray really naturally, but Rob Lowe's performance was so natural and real, it stood out for me.

Just watched the film.

Lowe had the accent and mannerisms down pat.

Aside from that, he did a great job and was cast well.

Drew Peterson has a deep and totally different voice than Rob Lowe.

Yes, you should be laughing. It's hilarious, like any other lifetime movie. Cheesy, laughable badness at its best.

The wig was a joke and the accent made me think of the SNL skit w/ the sports fans (da Bearz) but I think Lowe did a decent job.

Another post says Tim Allen should have done it and since reading that I agree, I think he'd have made a good Peterson, but I don't know if he'd have taken it as seriously as Lowe.

I was the one that said Tim Allen. He looks just like him.

My mother said the same thing. Rob is too good looking to play him. He did give a good performance. He may get an Emmy. But I still think Tim Allen would have been better. When they don't look like the real person I find it very distracting. There is this one scene when you see Drew hitting on these two young girls at the bar. His friend and that reporter are off to the side wondering how he does it. Watching the movie it's not hard to understand because you're looking at Rob Lowe.

It's not just that he doesn't look like him, he's a totally different type. Drew Peterson is an old, fat slob and it totally boggles my mind how he got any woman.
