The Russian Army was so good that without USA supplying them with food, armaments, technology and money they would've capitulate faster than France.
And comrade Stalin was such a nice chap he didn't want to occupy whole of Europe and Asia - just wanted to help Allies against the bad nazi boys.

Yeah, well, it was the Germans' greatest defeat in that war so instead of killing 4 Russians for every German soldier they only killed one and a half.
