I wouldn't put too much blame on the actors. Lizzy and Alison are good actors........ Lizzy more than Alison. But why they would do this movie is beyond me. The blame goes to the writers and the director who make the characters into stereotypes or fantasies. The male actors are obviously type-cast to just be goofy morons, just doing and saying what guys "normally" do. And Lizzy and Alison:.... it's obvious that the makers of this movie "tried" to make a compelling female drama. I'm a film student, I KNOW how bad films can get when they're made as compensation to fake a "feminine" side. This is such that example, and when hipster douchebags try to make a movie to say to people, "I know women. I'm a sensitive guy. See, here's the proof", the result is an horrendous act of bad comedy and shallow characters of both men and women, no matter how much moody scenes or "serious face shots" are put in to give the illusion of good drama.
A saw Lizzy Caplan STRUGGLING in this movie to try to sound natural, and good for her for trying her hardest and being professional. But of course it was impossible. The dialogue and the caricatures of characters and drama is just embarrassing to watch.
