The ending sucked a$$ - spoilers

This movie was pretty good until the end. I REALLY hate when the director does not have the balls to complete his movie. I'm sure we're supposed to *think* what we want. Does she tell him about the baby? We never know. Oh, I guess it's up to us...lame. The powers that be gave the director the authority to make this movie so you could tell a story. FINISH IT! It's a cop out to leave it up to the audience. FAIL.

I totally agree. All of the indie films these days are having that same ending, and it's supposed to be all deep and mysterious - but it's just lazy. Give the story some conclusion!

reply

Yeah, extremely weak.

Amy: I swear to God...I swear to God! That is NOT how you treat your human!

But what do you need for closure? Would you be happy with her just finishing her sentence?

Or do you also need to know...
-What was his reaction?
-Did they stay together?
-Did she carry to term?
-Did the sister's wedding happen as scheduled?
-Was she the maid of honor?
-Was the wedding dress with the straps "the one"?
(Feel free to stop me anytime, this is starting to turn into "War and Peace"!)

But wait, there's more!...
-What about the parents, did they actually separate?
-Did they reconcile or divorce?
-Was the band ever succesful?
-Were they signed by a label?
(Jeezus, forget "War and Peace", this is closer to "Atlas Shrugged"!)

And what about the stupid cat? What happened on it's "adventure", and did it ever run away again?

Or, maybe just realize that this was only a fluffy little rom-com that ended at exactly the right time and on the right note, lest it turn into SkyNet, become sentient, and take over the world.

Well hell yeah, all of the above, plus did Ferdinand come home pregnant also?

Your answer was brilliant and made me laugh out loud, but I'm with the OP. When I invest my money, time and emotions in a movie, I don't appreciate being left hanging at the end with - I HAVE to say this - a pregnant pause. Give me closure or I'll be angry at having wasted my time, etc., on a movie that drew me all the way in and then fizzled out at the end, leaving me wishing I'd never even sat down to watch it.

I exactly get your point! This movie had me on the edge of my seat, to see who Sarah ended up with, if anyone.

Since the thread is already marked spoiler, I think she said "Will you marry me?"

Because how I was enrapt, that is the next thing that happened, for me, instead of that blank screen. I was able to fill in the blank.

Darn this movie. I watch lots of movies on cable, big budget studio movies with major stars. Most of them are good.

And I watch small movies I have never heard of, and most of them are not that satisfying.

Just when I want to give up on the indies, something like Save The Date comes along, and I am stuck with the lousy indies again, waiting for the hidden gem like this.

Clever ending i m o. Better than the usual cliché fall into each others arms kissing love you forever ending. Liked it. More of a problem with the first 30 minutes of the film which was a bit unengaging. Fast forwarded a bit there.

Completely agree with the OP on the ending! I watched this movie, which was slow going, but built on momentum only to get a "NON-ENDING"???? WTF? I thought my DVR/Cable had a glitch.

Now if we are talking true riveting movie that leaves us somewhat hanging, and thinking about detailed awesome plots, I can deal with a "non-ending".... but this was ridiculous!

reply

Good description proniomj - the film indeed built on momentum and then when the screen went blank at the end in the middle of Sarah and Jonathan's conversation I actually shouted at the screen WHAT?! YOU B****RDS! So cross that I wasted my time on this. The characters are horrible and then to have a non-ending. UGH.
