The very ending moment of the film (possible spoiler)

The final shot of all the lit up apartment windows with the openly visible activity taking place behind them struck me as an homage to "Rear Window", as Claude and Germain peeking across the way into all the apartment windows made me think of Jimmy Stewart looking across the courtyard into his neighbor's apartments. Did anyone else think of "Rear Window" besides me?

reply

Oui. I suspect Ozon is hoping we'll think of "Rear Window," another movie about a guy obsessed with others' lives because he is not attending to his own.

reply

Ah, I wish I had realized that at the time. It's so clear now.

All I got was the reference to Teorema, during one of Germain's critiques, but I think there's probably more.

reply

The thought struck me immediately; it was very cleverly done in that there was a different scenario for each of the rooms.

Film lovers will love this movie.

From THR interview:

THR: Watching the movie, I was reminded very much of Hitchcock, particularly Rear Window.

Ozon: You aren’t the first person to mention that, but I must admit, I slept through Rear Window. The only time I saw the film, I hadn’t slept the night before, and I dozed off. So I remember a few extracts, but I have never seen the entire film. Maybe I dreamt my version of Rear Window while I was sleeping, and this is the film!

A suivre".

That's what popped up in my mind when watching the end.
Every window and apartment has a story. And we are all voyeurs.
Love Hitchcock's Rear Window!
