I think she was fed up with him -- he had been distant to her, refusing intimacy, not showing much sympathy that her job was in danger (and so when she really did lose her job, it hurt all the more). I supposed what pushed things over the edge was that Claude tricked her into believing that the hubby told him about her infertility.
