Not enough payoff for all that buildup

Why stay in the bar all night with a crazy lady who alternates between
accusing you of rape and accusing your friend? If she didn't want to
call the police or go to the hospital, they should have just told her
they needed to get home; no amount of her mind games and her smelling
them and berating them had the potential to resolve the situation. And why did they make her the stereotypical rape victim? Drunk, revealing clothes, wakes up ready to blame anyone, angry at men in general... and then it turns out she wasn't even raped, so I guess that's even worse. It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, and the cast was pretty good. The movie just wasn't believable to me, but the rest of the audience seemed to like it.

The movie was pretty bad. Started off strong but became tedious and heavy-handed with its exhaustive use of monologue. I agree with your criticism of the rape victim trope; the film was very insensitive not only in this regard but also with its portrayal of mental illness, which provided a plot twist almost as cliche as the ending. It was like THE GAME for the reality TV generation.

You're so right about the monologues! They really could have cut a lot out of this movie... like half of it.

I really dig Fairuza Balk, pity she isn't in bigger movies anymore. She's better than B-Movies.

the whole split personality thing has pretty much been summed up to misdiagnoses of other illnesses and urban myth...the rape stereotype however could have been handled a lot better, what was with the whole "i know it's my fault" nonsense...that b.s. myth is perpetuated enough as is...there was a lot of good dialogue to balance though i thought, the acting was superb, and the twists were fun and the right kind of light-hearted i thought...overall i still enjoyed the movie, but the rape part was a bit exhausting

SPOILERS.....

I thought this movie was pretty good...it definitely kept me glued to it until the very end. I guess that makes for a good movie. As far as the ending goes...I'm very surprised the "victim" didn't blow everyone who participated in it away. In the age of reality tv, we should have learned a valuable lesson back in its infancy.....anyone remember the Jenny Jones show?? I believe there was a couple more thst found out the hard way. Number one rule of thumb, you don't play around with peoples emotions....especially in this over the top way. As reality tv and social networking have become the norm....what will they do next to make it more interesting. What won't they do might be the better question. The world is crazy right now......keep on pushing people's buttons and see where it takes us next? I'm curious as to
what others think about this.

Yeah.

Stereotypes and bad psychology raps all around.

And, I guessed the end about 15 mins before the end.

I absolutely LOATHED the twist ending. I admit that the whole "blame the victim" *beep* that this movie tries to pull with rape victims IS bad enough, as well as its portrayal of mental illness but it HAD to have a twist ending that meant that not only was she not raped, not only does she not have a multiple personality disorder, but the whole thing, THE WHOLE THING, was a reality show that only one of them didn't know about. Its essentially "pulled out of your ass" plot twists. And if anyone here is like "Oh, you didn't see it coming so it was a good twist"...that argument is the dumbest you could make about twist endings. Could you imagine watching, say, The Sixth Sense and instead of Willis being a ghost, he's the reincarnation of Jack Styles from Jack Of All Trades with a Snowman fetish and actually ends up dying from frostbite. Oh what, it sounds stupid, it seems so dumb that you can't tell how it fits, "you didn't see it coming so it was a good twist". This movie has the same principal. If its a reality TV show, where are all the cameras, the sound recording devices, would watching it from a *beep* Tape from the bar security system be the only way to go about it? Plus why is it that its the friend that knows about it is the one to find her and act all "confused"?
