This movie was included in the filmography on his IMDb page and now it has been removed. Does anyone know if he was ever officially on the project and if so, is for sure off the project? I'm bummed - I thought he'd be great. But I can see it would probably be a foolish commitment (with the potential for several movies) given his recent accident:(

Given that he still seems to be recovering from his on-set accident (he still hasn't tweeted since the accident), I was surprised that anyone would have thought it a good idea to publicise the negotiations.
Hopefully O'Brien is on his way to making a full recovery and will be back in action again soon.
Start date for filming of American Assassin has changed a few times, but last I heard filming was scheduled to begin in London this September.

shareedsmets - I've never seen him in anything so I don't know about his acting ability but I think he looks too old to play a character who is supposed to be in his early 20's. He looks the part for the novels that take place later when he's in his 30's.

Lol - he's only just about to turn 25. The only reason he looks older right now is because of the beard (which some are saying he grew for the part). I'm "lol'ing" here only because most of the major Mitch Rapp fans have been complaining that he looks too young for the role.
What about Nick Robinson as a young Mitch Rapp and then Brett Dalton as the seasoned "agent"??
shareWell, I don't think that's even relevant anymore, because it's 100% official, O'Brien is Mitch Rapp. The plan is to start with a college-aged Rapp and then have the actor grow with the role.
shareI've never seen Nick in anything either so I no nothing about his acting ability but he seems maybe TOO young. And frankly, it's always better to keep the same actor for a role if possible. Dylan is old enough to segue into the older Rapp pretty well. And, like what Randomnumbers? said, it's a moot point. It's officially Dylan which I think is great!

shareThat's reassuring news as far as O'Brien's health and recovery goes. His name disappeared from the iMDB American Assassin cast list just a week or two ago, but I see it is back there now.
