Chief Whip / Charles Dance

At the very end the Chief Whip was trying to stop Dawkins make his speech and he seemed very unhappy with Dawkins' call for a vote. That confused me as I thought he was backing Dawkins to win thru. Unless The Chief Whip wanted war and had his own agenda all the time ? Just prior to Dawkins speech to the House, the Chief Whip was basically telling Hawkins to seize the day. Did he mean that he had to go to war ?

No, I don't think so. I think the Chief Whip was backing Dawkins .... until he heard what the PM was saying. Then he I think he tried to stop what he felt was an act of political suicide. His job was to keep the government IN government, and I assumed that he could no longer support Dawkins when he openly called on MPs to vote against it.

That's my take on it, anyway! :)
