This is a really bad movie, and not a horror

I am very tolerant of horrors because I love the genre and if the movie offers something interesting, it doesn't have to be perfect for me to enjoy. I expected this to be an ok movie because I saw it mentioned in combination with some other horros I enjoyed, and because 6+ rating on imdb for a horror is usually reserved for the more solid ones.

But *beep*, this was horrible, actually embarrassing. The characters were so poorly made. Who the hell talks to their students like that professor did, even before the rape incident? Everyone's behavior (except maybe Billy's) was so one dimensional and exaggerated.

"*beep* Mary, you're *beep* up my class, what the *beep*? Don't *beep* up again." Lol.

The body modification thing maybe could have been interesting, the doll lady and Betty Boop we're disturbing to look at and exploring the mentality behind it would have been interesting. It was cool-ish that the danger comes from the doll's boyfriend, but that potentially intriguing part was totally neglected. Instead we watch Mary being edgy and nothing ever developing into anything.

I don't even know why this is a horror. I am ok with calling non paranormal thrillers horrors if the main atmosphere evokes fear or discomfort, but this didn't have any. It was as if a teenager wrote it.

What a joke of a film. It couldn't even be classed as horror comedy, only as a failure.

Personally I liked the film. But I agree, it is in not horror - more goryish, psychologicalish-thrillery, somethingy.

The bit that let it down for me is how naive people seemed to be about body modification. Maybe this is because I have many tattoo/piercer/body modifier friends, and I am naive as to what general society knows. However, as you said, a deeper delve into the psychology of the practitioners & patrons of body mod. could have provided this film with a lot more substance.

Also, Is it normal for girls to just take drinks from people they don't know? I assumed they would be spiked, as I thought most girls would assume..? Again though, I work in the world of pubs and bars, so maybe my expectations of the average person's awareness is too high?
