the big probelm was how kathrine played her

basically like a robot. the whole movie she just looks bored and talks in a flat monotone.

In the second half, thats how she's supposed to be; no emotion, no conscious, just an empty shell. The rape with the professor is supposed to be the turning point for her sanity.

it wasn't very interesting to watch, at some point she should have broke down.

She did....multiple times. She broke down when her landlord calls her and says they have to move out because he wasn't able to pay the rent, she broke down after her first "surgery" job at the club, she broke down (in disgust, which still counts in my book) after her first "real" operation on Ruby RealGirl, she broke down (throwing *beep* off a table and flipping it also counts in my book) after her rape, she broke down when she caught the blonde chick sucking Billy off. I'm sorry, but she broke down more times than your average MTV teen brat (and this is a good thing, given the subject matter and what kind of film it is).

She DID break down, insensitive and emotionally stunted OP!

There wasn't any problem let alone a BIG one. Mary was absolutely lovable from start to finish. Do you people just watch movies to bitch about them or do you ever just enjoy life for once? *beep* me

I though KI did a great job playing Mary. The bored and robotic nature of her added to the fact that Mary had given up caring.

Should you look before you leap? Not if you want to make the leap.

I watched this film for a second time mainly because of KI's performance in this film. I thought the movie itself was pretty damn decent but she is fantastic.

I'd agree with you if there was some source material to base this off of. If it were a book and you knew the character before seeing her portrayed in film, completely understandable.

But in this case, the character is who she is. Who she was meant to be. If Katherine wasn't giving a performance the sisters wanted, it would be different.

It's not so much a problem, as it is your problem.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

We'll regardless it's still a problem. If the character doesn't seem to care. Y should I care

reply

The other characters care about her, and we care about her journey because we saw where she started and where she ended up.

We saw her hope and promise in the beginning, destroyed by the very system that is supposed to nurture and protect her and allow her to develop and contribute to society.

We saw her enthusiasm and her skill in the beginning, and we saw it exploited by both the criminal underworld as well as the supposedly legitimate official bureaucracy.

We saw her hope and dream for success and a normal life and we saw how it went wrong.

We saw her try to do what everyone is told they are supposed to do - go to school, do well, get a profession... and how it derailed.

We saw ourselves and the people we know in her, and we saw her fall from grace, and we cried for her and for ourselves and for all of the human race who find themselves in such circumstances.

When we see her blank face and her descent into madness we are shocked and saddened and weep for her and her loss. For the loss of our species, the difference between what positive things we could be and what we actually are...

I've read some pretentious cr@p on these boards on IMDB but you get the gold medal. I had to read your post twice to see if it was a joke, but no, it is some kind of BS justification for a psycho.......because she's female.

She was fine and a babe.

So far, it is her best acting and her best-looking role.
